ONE Protein Bar

ONE 1 Protein Bar Review: Taste, Nutrition, and Ingredient List

ONE Protein Bar is gluten-free, high in protein, and low in sugar. But it’s the fact that it comes in bizarre tastes like “maple glazed doughnut,” “birthday cake,” and “blueberry cobbler” that sets it apart. Oh, and the flavors are really delicious!

ONE Brand has discovered a method to produce wonderfully indulgent bars in 12 too-good-to-be-true flavors with 20 grams of protein and only 1 gram of sugar. ONE Brand proves that flavor and health don’t have to be mutually incompatible, proving that you can have your cake and eat it too! ONE is available at shops nationwide, including Target, Walmart, Trader Joe’s, Amazon, Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, and more, making it an ideal lunchbox swap, breakfast on-the-go, gym bag necessity, or anytime treat.

There is a bar to help fulfill your sweet desire – whatever that may be – with a dozen delicious varieties to pick from, including Birthday Cake, Chocolate Brownie, Blueberry Cobbler, and Peanut Butter Pie, to name a few.

About One Protein Bar

ONE Protein Bar

The mission of ONE is stated quite plainly on their website: “excellent flavor and good health are not mutually incompatible.” Rather than being restricted to their own product name and packaging, it appears that their attempts to develop truly good protein bars aren’t limited to a particular product line, but extend to every variety they produce.

They also showcase a variety of tastes, some of which are pleasantly surprising: everyone is familiar with almond-flavored bars, but have you tried birthday cake or maple-glazed doughnut protein bars? It’s a refreshing change of pace, and it sets a fantastic tone for what’s to follow.

What Are Their Bars Like?

Because not all bars are created equal, you may sometimes come across one that is a touch too crumbly or chewy for your tastes, but there’s no way to know until you start eating it. Thankfully, One’s bars appear to be quite substantial in a positive manner – there’s no sticky mess or jam-like taste to get caught in your teeth (or worse, on your clothes), and the outside shells are all fairly strong and mess-free.

Obviously, any chocolate-covered bars will melt, but that’s a problem that every snack bar may have. Speaking of which, all ONE bars have the same basic design: a solid block of filling on the inside, followed by a thin coating of chocolate (or a similar treat), occasionally with extra bits and pieces for authenticity.

Because each bar is tiny, they make excellent trekking or running snacks. Unlike ‘gooey’ snack bars with little solid content, the thin chocolate layers don’t melt as rapidly as ordinary chocolate bars, and the solid middle lessens the risk of them cracking or bending in your luggage.

Aside from that, all of their bars are gluten-free and contain no GMO ingredients. They’re all around the same amount of fat (eight grams), fiber (ten grams), and protein (20 grams), and they’re all about 220 calories.

Nutrition Facts Of ONE Protein Bar

ONE Protein Bar Nutrition Facts

ONE Brand Bars are gluten-free and its nutrition facts are as follows:

  • Calories 220
  • Total Fat 8g
  • Total Carbs 23g
  • Fiber 10g
  • Sugars 1g
  • Sugar alcohol 5g
  • Protein 20g

However, because these bars include milk, soy (lecithin), and nuts, it is advised to avoid them if you are sensitive to any of these components.

I feel confident in suggesting ONE Brand bars to children as young as two years old since they are very soft and simple to eat, plus they have a fantastic nutritional profile to boot. They do, however, include milk and whey products, which aren’t always agreeable to tiny tummies – or even grown-up bellies! If you or your children have a problem digesting dairy products, I recommend avoiding these bars.

One bars include a protein mixture made up of whey and milk proteins as the major component. The One bars are not vegan since whey is produced from milk protein. A prebiotic fiber called isomalto-oligosaccharide — a vegetable-sourced sweetener included in the bars — and soluble vegetable fiber round out the list of main components. Although the bars include just one gram of sugar from natural sources, they do contain a small quantity of sucralose, an artificial sweetener.

Taste

Let’s be honest about it. No matter how nutritious a product is, if it doesn’t taste nice, it will be difficult to consume. One bars are not only nutrient-dense, but they are also delicious. The brand currently offers 15 varieties, including dark chocolate sea salt, birthday cake, white chocolate truffle, and blueberry cobbler, which are among my personal favorites.

Although some of the tastes aren’t very distinctive (I’m looking at you, peanut butter cup), others, such as maple-glazed doughnut and almond bliss, set the bars apart from other nutrition brands.

Maple Glazed Doughnut

It smells like ripping up a package of glazed doughnuts when you rip off the wrapper! It has a wonderful aroma. And what’s this?! It tastes just like a maple-glazed doughnut. It’s similar to a conventional glazed doughnut, but with a distinct maple flavor. It’s the genuine article. It’s also comparable to a stack of fluffy pancakes drenched in maple syrup.

It was mostly naturally sweet rather than chemically sweet – just like a genuine doughnut – and there was no strangeness that artificial sweeteners are known for. That flavor was present in every mouthful. My brain thinks I’m eating a genuine doughnut since the flavor is so precise. It’s as if it’s saying, “This is so wonderful, we’ll overlook the minor texture variation and declare this to be the real deal.”

When it comes to texture, this bar is fairly soft and chewy. It’s considerably more thick and chewy than a genuine doughnut, but considering it’s a protein bar, it’s still remarkable. Because each taste lasts longer, I think I prefer this to the genuine thing! It’s also worth noting that the texture is consistent.

There are no surprises in every bite, which is smooth and chewy. That, I believe, contributes to the flavor’s realism. (Or maybe it’s simply that it’s been so long since I’ve eaten a doughnut that I’ve forgotten what it tastes like.) But I was so pleased with this that I began purchasing them by the dozen!)

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

This is a popular taste that a lot of firms excel at since you can’t go wrong with it. The scent and taste of the bar are precisely what you’d anticipate. This one is “excellent” or “enjoyable” in my opinion. It tastes like regular chocolate chip cookie dough.

The bar is chocolate-coated on the outside and has chocolate chips within, giving it a rich chocolate flavor. It’s more chocolate than cookie dough overall. The flavor is pleasant but not overpowering, and the sweetness is modest, resulting in a well-balanced tasting experience.

If you’re undecided about which flavor to sample, this is an excellent option. However, I should warn you that the aftertaste on this one leaves a trace of artificial sweetness in my tongue. It’s only a smidgeon, but it’s visible.

Dark Chocolate Sea Salt

This taste is all the rage these days. However, not everyone gets the fundamentals right. On the top, there must be visible sea salt! One Bar gets it right every time. The presentation is stunning, and that sea salt is very delicious!

You take a mouthful and it’s immediately delicious. It’s a rich, delicious combination of dark chocolate and sea salt. It’s fantastic! The inside is now just like a plain chocolate protein bar. It’s not awful, but it’s tedious for me.

The secret is to chew the chocolate covering and sea salt crystals fully before they dissolve! (Saying it is easier than doing it.) I love the beginning of most bites, but it quickly devolves into a basic chocolate flavor, which I find “meh.”

Almond Bliss

This coconut and almond combo is definitely inspired by the Almond Joy confectionery bar. (Almond Joy and Almond Bliss are nearly identical.) The design is nearly identical: a coconut bar with almonds on top, followed by a chocolate coating.

The bar has a pleasant, coconut-like aroma. The flavor begins with a chocolate flavor, followed by a coconut flavor. It’s all right. The texture isn’t as thick as the rest of the bars. Although there isn’t a lot of shredded coconut in this bar, I believe that is what makes it lighter and airier than the others.

Overall, it’s a bit of a snoozer. It’s not awful, but it’s not really thrilling. It’s never going to be mistaken for an Almond Joy candy bar! If you enjoy coconut, you should try the Perfect Bar, which has a significantly greater coconut flavor.

Birthday Cake

Topped with sprinkles?! Okay, this one takes first place in the beauty pageant! Wow. Inside, it tastes like yellow cake. The entire bar is covered with white frosting. Sprinkles are the final touch. It has a nice, familiar flavor and smells like confetti cake.

It’s also really sweet! I’m having a hard time distinguishing between distinct flavors. Is it a vanilla flavor? Is that a confectioner’s glaze? Overall, I suppose it tastes like… birthday cake. It tastes more like a Little Debbie snack cake, which is a lower-tier cake-type product that is easily portable. I’ve eaten far better birthday cake flavour ice cream than this.

This bar will probably be too sweet for you if you don’t like birthday cake with a thick coating of creamy icing. And if you’re a fan of birthday cakes, this might not be enough to satisfy your cravings.

Cinnamon Roll

Cinnamon can be seen — and tasted! This is just fantastic. Vanilla frosting and a freshly cooked cinnamon bun are two of my favorite tastes. They got the cinnamon roll taste just right. The whole sensation is inferior than that of a freshly baked, warm cinnamon bun.

However, the flavor is so excellent that it comes in a close second. (And there isn’t a smidgeon of a mess!) So, in some ways, this is preferable to the actual thing!) I will warn you, though, that this one is quite delicious. The sweetness of the frosting overpowers the cinnamon taste.

Fortunately, I can finish it without thinking, “Oh, that’s too sweet.” Unfortunately, this one had a lingering aftertaste for me. But not enough to keep me from buying a dozen of these!

Blueberry Cobbler

The aroma is incredible. It has a wonderful aroma. I really enjoy how the two layers make it seem on the inside. So, while my sight and nose were delighted, my taste sensations were not. The flavor was merely “okay.”

It has a moderate sweetness and a faint blueberry taste. The sweetness comes on quickly and then fades (where as some other flavors of one bar get sweeter as you chew). There are no blueberry bits in this recipe. It’s practically all one texture, like if you pulverized a blueberry pie in a food processor, then molded that paste into a bar. The texture is gone, but the flavor is still there.

I’m sure it’d be the same thing if you called it “blueberry pancakes,” “blueberry ice cream,” or even “blueberry Pop-Tarts.” Overall, you’ll enjoy this if you enjoy blueberry-flavored snacks and baked products. Just don’t expect it to be as good as homemade blueberry cobbler.

Peanut Butter Pie

This has a strong peanut butter pie aroma. It smells delicious, so you know it’s peanut butter pie and not just peanut butter! It also has that flavor, as predicted. The nauseating sweetness of pie combined with the flavor of peanut butter.

The texture is also silky. As a result, it tastes just like a real peanut butter pie! I don’t like peanut butter pie, but I do like this taste. It’s rather good. When it comes to peanut butter, I simply like a flavor that is more strong and salty. (With the Birthday Cake taste, I get my fill of sweets!) If you like peanut butter pies, you’ll probably enjoy this!

Iced Gingerbread (Seasonal Flavor)

The bar is gingerbread-brown in color, coated with white icing, and seems to have walnuts scattered on top. And, my, this is incredible! It has a gingerbread flavor to it. It even has the feel of a soft gingerbread board. Of course, with icing! It would be pretty darn close to genuine iced gingerbread if you could serve it warm.

It’s neither too sweet nor too spicy. It’s extremely relaxing. The sweetness and spice hit you with just the perfect amount of oomph, then fade away with time. The walnuts are barely noticeable. Clif Bar makes an iced gingerbread as part of their seasonal flavor assortment, and it’s delicious, but I have to give the edge to ONE Bar – this bar is fantastic and tastes exactly like the real thing.

Why Are ONE Protein Bar Different?

Because there are so many protein bars on the market, they generally require a unique selling feature or gimmick to stand out, as ONE is well aware. One of their strongest aspects is, unsurprisingly, the flavor and texture of their bars, which are far superior than the bulk of healthy protein bars.

However, one of the most noticeable distinctions is that their bars aren’t simply a variety of various nuts glued together with some type of syrup – they’re full-fledged protein bars, so you’re not just eating a bowl of almonds compressed into a smaller container. This makes it far more difficult to become tired of them if they become a regular part of your daily routine, and it also means that the flavors may become much more varied than with other bands.

Certain varieties are obviously healthier for you than others (the Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake bar comes to mind), but they’re all filled with protein and energy-boosting components that don’t simply give you a sugar rush. Because all of the bars contain about the same amount of fat, protein, and calories, they can be used interchangeably, so you won’t have to worry about one flavor having twice as many calories as another.

They’re really extremely beneficial for replenishing your energy and giving yourself the extra push you need to keep going, especially if you’ve spent the most of the day in a gym or out on a long-distance run. They’re little, packed with protein, and offer just enough calories to keep you satisfied without making you feel sluggish or overburdened.

Texture

You’re in luck, icing enthusiasts. If you prefer frosting on your protein bars, I think you’ll like how One Bar presents its flavors. Every bar has a coating of icing on top, which adds a wonderful rich layer of taste to the protein bar. The frosting on each bar varies in thickness, and the bar itself has a solid cookie dough bite to it. When you bit into most of the icings on the bar, they disintegrated, giving you the impression that you were eating a dessert.

In terms of texture, each bar differed significantly and sought to give a distinct feature based on the flavor. The chocolate chip cookie dough taste, for example, had a little piece of chocolate chip, while the almond joy bar included actual almonds. When you add this to the frosting, you get a bar that delivers a lot more than just taste, but a whole eating experience.

Who Should Consume One Protein Bars?

The ONE protein bar is a great option for anybody looking for a protein bar. (I’m assuming you’re searching for a protein bar because you want a quick and easy method to get 20+ grams of protein without eating too much else, and it has to taste nice.) One might be had either before or after your workout. If you’re trying to cut sugar out of your diet, they would make great snack bars. With only one gram of sugar, they have the flavor of a delicious treat.

They’re convenient to consume at work or on the run. They don’t make a lot of crumbs and don’t melt too much. There are occasionally extra frosting and/or toppings, but they are generally clean. They’re also fantastic as presents! Not only because they’re tasty, but also because the holiday wrapping are festive.

Conclusion

With so many bars to select from these days, it might be difficult to choose one that not only tastes wonderful but is also beneficial for you! When looking for a bar, some of the most important factors for me are high protein and fiber content, low sugar content, and, of course, deliciousness! ONE Brand Bars, on the other hand, tick all of these boxes and have converted me!

With 12 delectable varieties to pick from, such as Maple Glazed Doughnut, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Salted Caramel, I could eat one of these bars [as a treat] every day and be completely delighted!

However, I would want to point out that they include dairy products, which is something that I don’t agree with. Thankfully, I’ve discovered some excellent lactose-digesting enzymes that I’ve been using to help with this problem. While I don’t eat dairy-based items on a regular basis, these bars are literally too wonderful to pass up [most of the time] and make taking an additional supplement look like a smart decision ;).

Is There An Aftertaste?

A little aftertaste would occasionally linger, but it was not unpleasant. Unlike other bars, which leave an unpleasant taste in your tongue due to the artificial sweetener.

Do They Cause Stomach Issues?

Thankfully, these bars did not cause me any gastrointestinal problems. None! I tried each taste at different times of the day, sometimes on an empty stomach, and sometimes pre-workout, during my testing. I didn’t have any gastrointestinal problems at all.

How Filling Are They?

I was pretty satiated after only having ONE bar. I was satisfied, not full. It’s incredible to be able to feel full after eating a modest-sized bar with a reasonable amount of calories that is this delicious. Even if you don’t drink a glass of water afterwards, you’ll be OK. Sweet foods usually make us want to eat more! Whether it’s a glazed doughnut or an energy bar. With these ONE protein bars, though, I loved the sweetness first and then felt satisfied. Clearly, the increased fiber content is a factor. Along with a significant amount of protein and a reasonable amount of fat. However, I believe that density and chewiness play a part as well. To complete one of these bars, you have to chew so hard that your jaw may send a signal to your brain that you’ve had enough.

Can Your Stomach Handle That Much Fiber?

This bar has 10 grams of fiber in it. That’s a lot of information. The majority of the protein bars in my house include 0-4 grams of fiber. The Quest bar is the lone exception, since it boasts a massive 14-16 grams of fiber!

Can Your Stomach Handle The Maltitol?

Gastric discomfort is frequently caused by sugar alcohols like maltitol. Side effects such as cramping, bloating, and gas are possible (and very unpleasant). Fortunately, each of these ONE bars has just 5 grams of sugar alcohol, which isn’t too awful. Other bars, such the Think Thin protein bars (which have 20 grams of protein and zero grams of sugar), have 20+ grams of sugar alcohols!

Do You Want To Consume Sucralose?

Artificial sweeteners aren’t my favorite. I try to stay away from them as much as possible, but they’ve become a necessary evil if I want to enjoy the convenience of a protein bar. And if I had to pick one, it would be sucralose. As a result, none of these components are a deal breaker. So long as they don’t make me sick!

My one gripe isn’t really a gripe, and it’s only tangentially related to the ingredients list. But I have a question. Isn’t it odd that this is a protein bar with a name that correlates to the quantity of sugar in the bar?!
